Our History
The Party Bazaar (formerly Bazaar & Novelty) has roots in British Columbia stretching back to the 1960’s. The founder, Edward Gorman, was known for his generosity of spirit, supplying handmade games to schools and for events and fairs he developed. In 1977, The Party Bazaar, still family owned, became a franchise of Bazaar & Novelty for the province of BC.
In the early 1980’s paper bingo sheets and markers were introduced to replace the traditional hard cards and chip bingo. BC Lotteries Corp. soon began their management all bingo-related gaming; this necessitated Bazaar & Novelty - The Party Bazaar to focus on their core business of balloons, party supplies, themed celebrations and carnival products.
By 1980, the main store on Second Avenue in Vancouver had expanded from 5,000 sq. ft. to 18,000 sq. ft. The expansion started with an area for balloons, and the administration offices were moved to allow for increased product lines including the addition of a wedding room. Further expansions were required with a substantial increase to our selection of Halloween products and decorations.
Over the years the business has developed a large rental division of carnival games, dunk tanks, casino equipment, gaming wheels and helium tanks. Relied upon for many years by BC’s Special Events industry, The Party Bazaar is also a major supplier of event rentals and accessories to hotels, restaurants, pubs and clubs throughout B.C.
In September 2010, The Party Bazaar introduced our first dedicated Halloween pop-up retail store, The Flying Witch, in Langley BC.
In January 2011, after 35 years, the main store at 215 West 2nd was moved to a new location at 1296 Station Street, Vancouver. The new location is next to the train/bus station and just across from the Main Street Skytrain station. With a clean new space, we are ready to serve the community for years to come.
